He Charges His Tesla at Home Every Day — So We Designed His Solar System Around the Car

I met Dave on a Tuesday afternoon in Menifee, standing in his driveway next to a Tesla Model Y, holding his SCE bill like it had personally offended him.

“Look at this thing,” he said, handing it to me. “And part of it’s not even the house. It’s the car.”

That one sentence is the whole reason this job turned out different from a standard solar quote. Dave didn’t need “some panels.” He needed a system built around how his household actually uses electricity — and for a growing number of homeowners in Riverside County, that means designing solar and battery storage around an EV, not just a roof.

That’s the difference between solar and battery storage done right for a Riverside County home with an EV: the array isn’t sized off a rough square-footage estimate, and the battery isn’t an upsell — it’s there because it solves a specific timing problem this specific household has. Once we had his usage numbers, I brought in one of our installation partners to handle permitting and the physical build, but the sizing and design work — the part that actually determines whether this system performs the way Dave expects for the next 20 years — happens before a single panel gets ordered.
